Academic Support

HSS Fellows Program

HSS Fellows are assigned a dedicated academic advisor in the College of Charleston’s Academic Advising and Planning Center who will work closely with each student in developing and organizing the academic course selection for the initial fall semester. This first initial meeting will be at CofC’s New Student Orientation the summer prior to enrollment on the Charleston campus. During the fall semester your academic advisor will work with you to select your spring classes at Franklin University Switzerland. The academic advisor works with the HSS Fellows throughout the academic year and stays in close contact with them while on the Lugano campus as they prepare for re-entry to CofC the following fall. And, HSS Fellows benefit from on-site academic advising in Lugano during the spring semester as your dedicated CofC academic advisor will visit you in person during your time abroad.

An upper-division CofC student with a strong experiential background in first year student support will be assigned to the HSS Fellows cohort for the full academic year. This individual will monitor academic progress, organize special programming in Charleston and Lugano, and provide transitional support for the group. Fall programming specific to the HSS Fellows’ cohort will utilize CofC resources and events to build a transitional component to the initial semester; spring programming to take advantage of culturally rich experiences specific to Lugano and close surrounding geographic region. This Study Abroad Mentor will travel with you to Lugano and complete a semester abroad living on campus to provide you ongoing support and mentorship as while you are enjoying your time at Franklin University Switzerland.
