Charleston Bridge Peer Mentors
The Role of the Charleston Bridge Peer Mentor:
Students participating in Charleston Bridge have a Peer Mentor assigned to them during the fall semester. The mentor is a successful College of Charleston student who is available to provide support during a student's first semester in college. Mentors are not tutors or counselors but can give informal advice based on their experience and may help student's get acclimated to the college environment.
Mentors communicate weekly with their students and serve as a co-instructor in the Student Success Seminar. They are also available for virtual or in-person meetings if a student needs to talk.

Become a part of a the New Student Programs family by serving as a Charleston Bridge Peer Mentor this fall. We offer students an opportunity to grow professionally in a fun, supportive environment. Enjoy flexible hours, working with a team, lots of swag, and snacks!
The Charleston Bridge Peer Mentor is assigned 18-20 students during the fall semester. Mentors communicate with Charleston Bridge participants and serve as a co-instructor during the Student Success Seminar. This peer educator role provides current College of Charleston students with many opportunities to develop oral and written communication skills, practice public speaking, create presentations, and build collaboration tools.
Hours:
Charleston Bridge Peer Mentors work approximately 5-10 hours a week. Flexible hours based on the mentor's schedule which can include evening hours. Some availability will be expected during the Monday-Friday 8:30-5:00 New Student Programs office hours for team and student meetings. Mentors are paid for their time attending the seven Student Success Seminars held on Mondays.
Time Commitment:
- 1 hr to attend the Monday success seminar
- 1 hr for weekly lesson planning with the seminar instructor
- 1 hr for weekly team meetings
- 1 hr to create and send weekly outreach emails to Charleston Bridge students
- 1-2 hours a week to respond to emails and for virtual or in-person student meetings as needed
- 2 hours for occasional events planned during the semester
Must be available to attend seven success seminars which meet on Mondays 5:30-6:20 pm. Students who successfully completed the Charleston Bridge program are encouraged to apply!
Pay Rate:
$11.00/hr.
Work study and non-work study positions are available.

Peer Mentor Application Requirements:
- Mentors should be comfortable presenting information to students and serving as a co-instructor during the success seminar.
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA minimum: 2.5.
- Should have NO reported disciplinary actions occurring during the previous semester.
